Understanding Coherence:
Coherence refers to the logical and smooth flow of ideas in a piece of writing. It ensures that the content is well-connected and comprehensible to the reader. Proper sequencing of ideas, using transitional words and phrases, and maintaining a consistent writing style and tone are included.
Establishing Cohesion:
Cohesion involves the effective use of linguistic and structural devices to connect various parts of a text. It helps to create unity and coherence within a piece of writing. Techniques such as the use of pronouns, referencing, conjunctions, and logical connectors  establish cohesion and improve the overall readability of the text.
Organising Ideas:
Coherence and cohesion play a vital role in organizing ideas within a text. The use of topic sentences, supporting details, and transitional phrases lead to effective organisation,  enhance clarity and help readers follow the writer's line of thought.
Enhancing Readability:
Coherence and cohesion contribute to the overall readability of a written piece. They reiterate the importance of using appropriate sentence structure, avoiding ambiguity, and maintaining a clear and concise writing style. By enhancing readability, students can effectively convey their ideas and engage their readers.

The editing process in writing (codEr), is an opportunity to refine and enhance coherence and cohesion. This allows students to review their work, identify gaps in logic or coherence, and make necessary revisions. It emphasises the importance of self-editing and peer feedback in improving overall writing quality.
