Discover how the Six Thinking Hats method can deepen your understanding of literature.

Six Thinking Hats

  1. White Hat (Factual Thinking): Focuses on gathering and analysing information objectively. Students can wear the White Hat by researching facts about the poems, such as the poet's background, historical context, and literary devices used.
  2. Red Hat (Emotional Thinking): Emphasises intuition, emotions, and feelings. Students can wear the Red Hat by expressing their emotional response to the poems, discussing how the poems make them feel and the impact of the imagery or themes.
  3. Black Hat (Critical Thinking): Encourages critical judgment and identifying potential risks or flaws. Students can wear the Black Hat by analysing the weaknesses or limitations in the poems, such as any conflicting ideas or ambiguous language used.
  4. Yellow Hat (Positive Thinking): Focuses on identifying benefits, values, and positive aspects. Students can wear the Yellow Hat by discussing the positive elements of the poems, such as the strong positive / motivational themes or the transformative impact.
  5. Green Hat (Creative Thinking): Stimulates creativity, generating new ideas, and exploring possibilities. Students can wear the Green Hat by brainstorming creative interpretations of the poems, exploring alternative endings or perspectives, or even writing their own inspired pieces.
  6. Blue Hat (Meta-Thinking): Facilitates organizing and managing the thinking process. Students can wear the Blue Hat by engaging in the reflection process and Teachers can wear the Blue Hat by guiding the discussion, setting objectives, summarising key points, and encouraging students to reflect on their overall learning experience.
